I have been playing this game with existing cards' 0% BT offers since November, and in that time I have profited about $1600, and I should add another $800 or so between now and April 2008. I have now begun a "slow AOR" (is that an oxymoron?) by applying for a number of high bonus cards over the past two weeks, many of which have 0% BT or at least 0% intro purchase rates. I estimate that my entire profit from all this activity over 18 months will be on the order of $4000.

It is true that those who cannot properly organize to keep all their payments up to date or cannot exercise the discipline to invest the proceeds in risk-free investments should NOT pursue this strategy.

While I'm looking forward to doing a full-blown AOR sometime in the future, I'll continue taking the free money the CC issuers are throwing at me in the short term. Anyone who can write a BT check, pay bills, and open online bank accounts can profit from this strategy.

Also, I expect to make about $1500 over the next 8 months in bank account opening bonuses, so overall I'll be up about $5500 from hustling cash over an 18 month period.

I'm not sure that encouraging people to take out credit cards is the best advice. Obviously it is beneficial from a FICO standpoint, but playing the credit card balance transfer game can lead to some catastrophic consequences.
