Best Current Deals, Promotions, and Sign Up Bonuses
I absolutely love to take advantage of promotions and sign up bonuses. So I decided to compile a list of the best current ones that are available. This list contains mostly ones that I have done or tried to do and have a good payout versus the amount of effort or time to complete.
1) $100 in Thank you points for various Citibank Credit Cards
Citibank has several different cards which give 10,000 thank you points after you make your first purchase. If you use the points for gift certificates or student loan rebates you get one dollar for 100 points, making the deal the equivalent of $100. The cards also offer 0% balance transfers with no fees for 12 months.
Some of these cards include the Citibank AT&T Universal Rewards Card, Diamond Preferred Rewards, Simplicity Rewards, and Professional card with Thank you network.
2) $100 for Opening a Fidelity Brokerage Account
Another 10k to open bonus, but this one doesn’t require you to keep the money in the account for a long time. New Fidelity customers can open a brokerage account with 10k and receive $100. You can also get 15k United Miles if you want that instead. You can take the money out after you get the bonus as long as you keep the account open for 6 months. There are no maintenance fees so this isn’t a problem. I left a few dollars in there so they don’t close it.
Note that most of the retirement accounts or 529 plans aren’t eligible for the bonus. I was able to get the bonus for new customers even though I had a 529 account with them so those accounts might not prohibit you from being considered a “new” customer.
3) $100 statement credit for Chase Sony Credit Card
I discussed this several months ago and the deal is still active until 12/31/06. I haven’t been able to sign up for this card yet but I will in a month or two once my credit report is a little better. You get a $100 statement credit approximately 8 to 12 weeks to your card after you make your first purchase. The card also has 12 months of 0% on purchases and balance transfers so it is very useful as a card as well.
4) $71 for opening a Sharebuilder/ebates accounts
You can get a $50 bonus by opening a sharebuilder account using the code ENTERTAIN50 (expires 12/31/06) and making a purchase of a stock or etf. You can also sign up for ebates, getting a $5 bonus and then use the ebates account when you sign up for sharebuilder for a $20 bonus, giving you a total of $75 in total free money. There is a detailed post of the process over at Consumerism Commentary. I did this earlier this year and was very impressed by the way they sent emails to keep me informed of my progress in satisfying the promotion. There is a $4 commission on trades so this gives you a net of $71.
Updated: Apparently some people have signed up for mutliple sharebuilder accounts. Some other codes are listed here.
5) $20 for opening a Virtualbank online savings account
You must open a virtualbank account with $100 and both you and the person who referred you will receive a $20 bonus. A 20% return for a month of keeping your money stashed away can’t be beat. It’s also a great chance to try out the online savings account world if you haven’t yet. You can also refer other friends and family members you know after you open it for even more bonuses.
If you need a referral, simply email me at Jason at pragmaticfinance dot com replacing the at with @ and dot with . You will need to use the email address you intend to open it and give me the first and last name you will use to open it with. I won’t ever give your email address out without permission.
6) $25 for opening an INGDirect online savings account
Similar to the Virtualbank deal, but this time you get $25 for opening with $250. You can also refer others after you open it for a $10 bonus for yourself. Again, if you need a referral simply email me. This one is less strict, the name and email address does not have to match as long as you use the link contained in the email.
7) 12,000 bonus miles for Discover Miles Card
When you open the Discover Miles card you can get 1000 bonus miles each month you make a purchase for the first year. This might be a little more of a hassle but the card also has other benefits such as 12 months of 0% interest on balance transfers and purchases. There are several ways to redeem your points. You can get $50 for 10k points. If you want more of a one to one relationship you can opt for gift cards or travel.
I plan on getting this card soon. I will probably pump a dollar of gas with this card a month unless I think of another creative way to make a cheap purchase.
