38th Edition of the Carnival of Investing
Welcome to the 38th edition of the Carnival of Investing. I am your host, Pragmatic Finance and I will give you the run down on what went on in the investment blogosphere this past week.
I had to chuckle when My 1st Million at 33 said I beat you on this stock, Warren Buffet! Who Knew ConocoPhillips could generate so much excitement. And to balance out my emotions Consumerism Commentary let us know that The Market Goes Up When Congress is Out. Maybe some of the more creative out there can think up some ways to lesson the time Congress is in session so my IRA will go up.
These days everyone is concerned about real estate prices out of control. Ask Uncle Bill plays devil’s advocate when he talks about When a Bubble isn’t a Bubble - Maybe. The Pine Needle Lawn is busy speculating about Aspen Colorado vs. Ely Minnesota. And Digital Breakfast is busy marketing with postcards to try to snag some foreclosures.
Financial Options shows us the financial week ahead for those that want to keep up with the market. Gold Stock Bull is, well, bullish on gold believing that its about to break out of its current resistance level.
It seems that the Nigerians aren’t the only ones getting in on the scam business these days. Free the Drones tells us about some Modern Ponzi Investment Schemes: HYIP and Autosurfing. Sox First tells us about how Spam pumps and dumps penny dreadfuls. I think hosting this carnival would have been worth it just to read that post as I have been wondering why I keep getting spammed about penny stocks these days.
One of the many ways to invest is to do so with dividends in mind. Investing Guide explains how to value a stock using the dividend discount model. The Dividend Guy Blog tells us Why Dividends Matter, especially long term. However, HeJustLaughs makes sure to point out that its Not dividends, not growth, but both that must be considered.
I guess I can’t put off the general investing topics any longer. Free Money Finance gives 5 reasons Why He Likes Index Funds. Blueprint for Financial Prosperity tells us about Rolling over a 401k. A good read so can avoid the tax man as much as possible. Bryan C. Fleming gives us some great advice about How to be Your Own Bank. Paying yourself, instead of the bank, interest is a great idea. I mostly agree with Searchlight Crusade on the Best way to save for a down payment.
While physical investments are important, investing in your future is too. My Simply Trading System gives some tips about developing your career in Financial and Branding Lessons from Tyra Banks. Specific examples are always a great way to explain points. And last, but certainly not least, Young and Broke Considers MBA Costs and talks about to determine if it is worth it for you.
That wraps things up. You can thank the semi-story version on the fact that I messed up the pretty table I had and didn’t have time to figure out what was wrong with it.
I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend. Next week the Carnival of Investing will be back to its normal monday timeslot.
